Give Your Spine Some TLC this Valentine’s Day

Light the candles and cue the hallmark cards, love is in the air as we celebrate one of the most romantic days of the year.

However, before we get swept up in the rose petals and boxes of chocolate, have you thought about giving your spine some TLC?

After all, our spines are the ones that hold us up when we’re down and gives us the support of a lifetime!

Here are some ideas on what you can do to shower your spine in the love it deserves!

1.Love your posture

Yes, before you get down on one knee to propose to your special one this Valentine’s Day or you’re sitting in your chair ordering red roses online: check your posture!

Incorrect posture, such as slouching, and hunching, puts enormous stress on your body and spine. Not to mention, bad posture may lead to neck pain and back pain.

The ideal goal is to have your spine in a neutral, upright position, not flexed too far forward or backward. Pull your shoulders down and back, pull your head back, and engage your core muscles. Lastly, try bringing your belly button in towards your spine.

2.Love your stretching

Stretching is one of the best Valentine’s Day gifts you could possibly give your spine.

Give yourself just three minutes with the stretches found in the Straighten Up app! Consisting of a set of simple stretching exercises, the program will help improve your posture, stablise core muscles and prevent spinal disability.

Think of it as a 24/7 chiropractor in your pocket! So, give your spine some Valentine’s TLC by doing some stretching.

3.Love your walking

Sunrise or sunset? Take your pick with a romantic stroll somewhere picturesque. You deserve it and so does your back!

Walking is one of the best ways to strengthen the muscles that support your spine. Not to mention, the circulation from walking will gradually improve, circulating more nutrient dense blood to your muscles and tissues.

Walking also contributes to a naturally upright posture! You can download the Just Start Walking app to discover new walks in your area, as well as tracking your distance and pace! Sounds like a date to me!

4.Love your chiro

Seeing a chiropractor is one of the best things you can do not just for your spine, but for your overall health as well! Chiropractic care looks after the entire nervous system and improves your musculoskeletal health; not to mention improving your immune function over time (as chiropractic care restores function to your nerves to ensure they are operating spick and span). A visit to your local ACA chiropractor may also give you more energy, improved range of motion, better balance, improved digestion and better breathing and sleep!
