The ACA strategic plan aims to build capability in all areas of research, education and practice through a systems approach and a structured skills development pathway. The Chiropractic Academy of Research Leadership (CARL) program has this outcome in common and the four initial CARL fellows from Australia are all ACA members.
This program is led by three senior academics, Professors Greg Kawchuk, Jan Hartvigsen and Jon Adams, developed an international leadership program modelled after the Oxford International Research Leadership Program. This program identifies, nurtures, and supports emerging young researchers whose research is relevant to chiropractic. The program’s
ultimate goal is to create a sustainable research culture and ultimately a greater academic mass in the chiropractic profession by increasing research output and leadership opportunities within this group.
The ACA has agreed to contribute to the funding of the CARL program from 2020 to 2023 which will enable a sustainable approach to leadership development in research plus contribute to our knowledge base and therefore advocacy efforts. This funding is part of our commitment to research through PhDs, MRes and specific projects in addition to our support of students.
