On 27 April 2020, the Fair Work Commission finalised changes to the Health Professionals and Support Services (HPSS) Award as part of the 4-yearly review of modern awards.
Please note: As per section 165 (3) of the Fair Work Act 2009, the new award will begin to operate from the first full pay period commencing on or after Thursday 18 June 2020.
The primary changes to the award are as follows:
- The title of the Award is changed from the ‘Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2010’ to the ‘Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2020’.
- New tables summarising minimum rates of pay for ordinary hours, overtime hours, weekend work and shiftwork according to employees’ classification levels are inserted into the Award.
- Additional structural changes to the Award are introduced to clarify obligations and entitlements that were previously a source of confusion for the parties to whom the Award applies.
Please note: These changes do not affect the substantive provisions of the Award. They are simply formatting/structural changes to clarify entitlements/obligations that were identified as being unclear.
