What is the review?
The Victorian Minister for Health has asked Safer Care Victoria (SCV) to lead an independent national review of the practice of spinal manipulation on children under 12 years, and for the findings of that review to be provided to all Australian Health Ministers later this year, including any need for changes to the law.
What does it entail?
While the review will examine all available research, it will also call for submissions from members of the public to ensure an informed decision is made about the future of chiropractic care for children under the age of 12.
Please note: The public consultation has now closed. A large number of submissions were received from around the country from both the public and practitioners. Safer Care Victoria will report publicly on its findings and recommendations by the end of the year.
What could happen to chiropractic?
Amendments to the regulation and law surrounding spinal manipulation for children under the age of 12 may come into effect as a result of the review and may place unnecessary age restrictions on who chiropractors can provide care to, preventing them from caring for paediatric patients.
