About World Spine Day

World Spine Day, held on 16 October, is an annual health initiative aiming to encourage good spinal health habits.

First held in 2008, World Spine Day is organised by the World Federation of Chiropractic, of which the ACA is the Australian member.  Over 600 official organisations worldwide support this initiative each year.

World Spine Day aims to encourage people to look after their spines and stay active through the promotion of physical activity, good posture, responsible lifting and healthy working conditions.

Move Your Spine

The 2023 campaign calls on people to care for their spines by staying active. Evidence has shown that immobility and a lack of physical activity are contributors to spinal pain and disability. “Move Your Spine” encourages people of all ages, in all nations, to get active and support their spinal health through movement. An estimated one billion people suffer with spinal pain with 540 million people at any one time.

This year’s theme “Move Your Spine” (#MoveYourSpine) will focus attention on the diverse nature of spinal pain and disability at home, in the workplace, in schools and in our communities while addressing movement across the life course. It will highlight ways in which all people, from all backgrounds can help their spines by staying mobile, avoiding physical inactivity, not overloading their spines, and adopting healthy habits such as weight loss and smoking cessation.

Join the Movement

Your spine is the backbone of your body, quite literally. Taking care of it through regular physical activity and spinal health awareness can lead to a happier, healthier life. Join us in the “Move Your Spine” campaign, and let’s work together to reduce spinal pain and disability worldwide. For more information visit worldspineday.org

Straighten Up

Stretching and performing spinal exercises can help improve spinal health and the way the body functions. Consisting of a set of simple exercises and taking just three minutes to complete, our Straighten Up initiative can help improve posture, stabilise core muscle groups, enhance health and prevent spinal disability.

Designed to act as your ‘Pocket Chiropractor’, this app aims to address the growing posture issues and back pain problems faced by Australians.

Some of the features of the app include setting reminders to receive notifications about sitting right, stretching, taking breaks and improving your posture. The app also includes a 3-minute exercise program designed to improve spinal health, stabilise core muscle groups and more. The app also shows a list of local ACA chiropractors to help you find a chiropractor near you.
