What is the review?
The Victorian Minister for Health has asked Safer Care Victoria (SCV) to lead an independent national review of the practice of spinal manipulation on children under 12 years, and for the findings of that review to be provided to all Australian Health Ministers later this year, including any need for changes to the law.
What does it entail?
While the review will examine all available research, it will also call for submissions from members of the public to ensure an informed decision is made about the future of chiropractic care for children under the age of 12.
What could happen to chiropractic?
Amendments to the regulation and law surrounding spinal manipulation for children under the age of 12 may come into effect as a result of the review and may place unnecessary age restrictions on who chiropractors can provide care to, preventing them from caring for paediatric patients.
How can I help?
Your chiropractor needs your help as this review has the potential to jeopardise the level of care chiropractors in Australia can offer to you and your family.
As a loyal patient, there is no better way to show how meaningful chiropractic care is to you than by making a submission to the review as parents of children who have received care have a significant role to play in helping to protect the future of chiropractic in Australia.
Your voice as a patient matters. Follow these simple steps to filling out the SCV survey:
- Visit engage.vic.gov.au/chiropractic-spinal-care-children-review
- Select one of the “I am a member of the Australian public” options.
- Fill out the simple and quick survey, with as much detail as possible.
This consultation is open to members of the public from all over Australia, not just those who live in Victoria.
Australian chiropractors, including your own, appreciate your help in highlighting why you believe chiropractic is an important care option for your family.
